Joomla.org Redesign Progress

Oh boy, redesigning Joomla.org and all the subsites (8 Joomla 1.5 sites, 2 Joomla 1.7 sites, 1 phpbb3 forum, and probably more…) is just about as much work as I thought it would be.

Here’s my current progress:

I plan on knocking out the JED, API and Dev site in the next few days. Later I’ll brave the phpbb3 style/theme update.

The main goal of this first round of updates is the homepage update and consistent menu. The structure of the subsites will largely stay the same and just receive a fresh coat of paint right now. Once the new templates are in place then we can start optimizing the user experience within those sites.

Sorry it’s taking so long, where the heck did free time go?

Working on an article for Joomla Magazine

I’ve been asked to write an article for this month’s issue of the official Joomla Magazine. I’ll be writing a post for the Designer’s Studio category.

Lots of possible topics come to mind:

  • Whether of not to use a Joomla Framework
  • Why most Joomla template devs use Adobe Fireworks over Photoshop
  • Some easy steps to get your 1.5 templates ready for 1.6
  • The creative flow of popular Joomla template clubs
  • Joomla needs more quality free templates

Hope I pick the one that’s most interesting to the masses :)

Projectfork’s UI Will Be Much Better in 2.2

Now that I’m able to focus more time & energy on the Projectfork and AdminPraise User Interfaces, expect to see some big strides forward.

This past week I was able to focus around 25 hours strickly to Project’s user interface for version 2.2, which will be a big step forward.

Here’s a screen of the all new cpanel:

Any current PF users will immediately notice that this will be much more subtle, emphasizing all the right areas and use space much more efficiently.
